Featured Game - Hidden Sums
Hidden Sums is one of the games in Action Solitaire. It is played in rounds for
Hidden Sums is played with a special deck where all of the Jacks, Queens, and
Kings are replaced with Aces, making 16 Aces in all.
At the start of a round 22 cards are dealt to a tableau in a kind of double pyramid
type pattern with 19 cards face down and 3 cards face up. The remaining cards
are dealt to a stock with the top card turned over to form a waste pile.
To play, you eliminate groups of cards whose ranks add to 11. For example, you
can select an Eight and Three, or a Five and a Six, or two Fives and an Ace, or any
combination of any number of face up cards that add up to 11. You can select any
card that is face up and not blocked by any other cards.
You may click on the stock to turn over cards to the waste pile. When there are
empty spaces in the tableau and you turn over a card in the stock, the card
currently in the waste pile will move up to an empty space in the tableau (it will be
face up and available for play).
Points are earned as follows: you get 1500 points for every group of cards adding
to 11 that you remove from play. In addition, you get an additional points based
on where each card is in the tableau. The tableau contains 6 rows. If the card is
on the bottom row (closest to the waste pile), you get 100 points, if it is in the 2nd
row you get 200 points, and so on back to the top and deepest row, which earns
600 points per card. For a card from the waste pile, you get 300 points.
Every time you turn over a card to the waste pile you lose 200 points.
If you are able to clear the entire tableau, you earn 10,000 points (you can do this
only once per round).
At any time in a round, you can click on the Take Score button to end the round.
If your current score is greater than the goal score for the round, you will advance
to the next round and play again to accumulate more points.
The goal is to get your score over the goal score for the round so that you can
advance to another round. If a round ends before you achieve the goal score, you
have lost the game. You have only a limited amount of time to play each round,
as you advance in rounds the amount of time you are given for each round
