New Pretty Good Solitaire Version 9
----------------------------------
<http://www.goodsol.com/pgs/index.html>
Dear Solitaire Players,
A new Pretty Good Solitaire version 9.0.0 is available for download from <http://www.goodsol.com/download.html>.
WHAT'S NEW
Pretty Good Solitaire version 9 adds 50 new games to bring the total number of games up to 550. The new games are:
Alexandria, Athena, Big Spider One Suit, Big Spider Two Suits, Cassim,Chinaman, Chinese Klondike, Chinese Spider, Corner Suite, Darwin, Diffusion, Double Acquaintance, Double Pyramid, Dutch Solitaire, Eight On, Eights Down, Fair Lucy, Family Plot, Haystack, KingCell, La Nivernaise, Little Gate, Marie Rose, McClellan, Minerva, Pantagruel, Parallels, Phantom Blockade, Portuguese Solitaire, Princess Patience, Queen Victoria, Rouge Forty, Royal Parade, Scorpion Tail, Seven by Four, Seven Steps, Simon Says, Spider One Suit, Spider Two Suits, Super Challenge FreeCell, Surprise, Three Up, Triple Demons, Triple Harp, Triple Russian, Triple Triangle, Tuxedo, Virginia Reel, Yukon Kings, Yukon One Suit.
I'll be featuring several of these new games in upcoming newsletters. My current favorites among the new games are:
Virginia Reel - a classic that involves a surprising amount of strategy
Double Pyramid - a two deck version of the classic Pyramid
Family Plot - a somewhat easier version of the difficult game The Plot
Chinese Spider - a unique 4 deck game with only 3 suits based on Spider
Rouge Forty - a cross between Forty Thieves and Rouge et Noir
Other new features in version 9 include new help in the taskbar that shows how to build on the pile under the mouse cursor. This will save trips to the help file to see how to play. Also, the toolbar across the top of the screen is now larger.
A simple but cool new feature is the new desktop shortcut feature. From within any game, go to the Game menu and select "Create Shortcut on Desktop" from the menu. A new shortcut will be created on your desktop for that game. When you click on the shortcut, you'll go directly into that game, bypassing the game selection menu screen. You can create these shortcuts and then move them into desktop folders to create quick access to your favorite games.
I hope you like the new version!
Sincerely,
Thomas Warfield

UPGRADES
Pretty Good Solitaire version 9 is a free upgrade for those who originally registered Pretty Good Solitaire Quest Edition (2001 version) or Pretty Good Solitaire 500 (2002 version), or who paid for an upgrade to the Quest Edition or 500 version. Full details on upgrading are at <http://www.goodsol.com/upgrade.html>. In short, if you purchased after the release of the Quest Edition on February 8, 2001, this is a free upgrade.
If you qualify for a free upgrade, your registration code will work in the new version. Normally Pretty Good Solitaire should register itself if it finds a registered copy of one of these older versions. If not and you have lost your code, you can request that your registration code be sent to you again from <http://www.goodsol.com/regusers.html>.
If you originally registered Pretty Good Solitaire 97, 98, 99, or 2k, and you have not yet paid for an upgrade, you can upgrade for only US$11.95 from <http://www.goodsol.com/upgrade.html>. See that page for more information.
TO ORDER
Pretty Good Solitaire version 9 is still only US$24. Our shipping price for the optional CD-ROM is now $7.50 instead of $5, our first shipping price increase since 1997. In addition to installing the basic game, the CD-ROM also installs all eight of the currently available extra card sets.
