PRETTY GOOD SOLITAIRE v16.0 with 900 GAMES
--
Two weeks ago we released a new version of Pretty Good Solitaire, version 16.0, with 900 solitaire games.
If you have not yet downloaded this new update, you can download it from http://www.goodsol.com/download.html .
There are a lot of new features in version 16, for a summary see http://blog.goodsol.com/2016/02/new-pretty-good-solitaire-for-windows-version-16-with-900-games.html
One of the new features is two new larger card sizes. As a part of the new sizes, there are also changes in how the best card size for each particular game is calculated. When the card size is set to automatic, the game finds the best card size to fit the game into the current window and screen resolution.
This is complicated by the fact that playing cards are longer than they are wide and some screens are much wider than they are high. This can make fitting a game on some screen resolutions challenging. In this new version, it seems that some people in some screen resolutions are seeing card sizes smaller than they are used to because of some changes in this calculation.
This seems to be happening most in screen resolutions with a 16x9 ratio, which are much wider than they are high. These resolutions, which include 1600x900 and 1920x1080, are becoming increasingly popular as people buy PCs or tablets designed to show media such as widescreen video. The problem here is that the resolution can handle larger card sizes horizontally but not so much vertically.
The new version made some choices designed to best fit the cards vertically but make it not look good horizontally. I am in the process of changing this for a new bug fix update (which will be coming soon). It seems that people prefer the chance of running out of room at the bottom to having smaller cards spaced horizontally, so I will be making some adjustments in the bug fix update.
If this issue has affected you and you see a card size that looks wrong to you, send me a screenshot of the game in question (because this depends heavily on exactly which game you are playing) and what screen resolution you have and this will help me improve the choices of card sizes in that game.
I have already made several bug fixes for the next bug fix update and I hope to release it soon.
