FEATURED GAMES - KLONDIKE TYPE GAMES

Most players know that the game Klondike is the standard classic solitaire game with 7 piles, often just referred to as solitaire, and the game that came with Windows. But Klondike has many, many variations. Pretty Good Solitaire for Windows currently has 141 games in the Klondike Type group, which you can access by clicking on "Klondike Type" in the left side of the main manu screen. The Mac version has 88 Klondike type games.

If you go to https://www.goodsol.com/games/type-klondike.html , you can see most of these games laid out with their most similar games.

The game Klondike itself has a number of different versions, in the Windows game these are all combined in the game Klondike, with rules options in the Options menu for allowing Kings only fill empty tableau piles or allowing any card, and for having a one card or a three card deal. In the Mac/iPad/iPhone games, these are separated into separate games.

In addition, there are many 2 deck Klondike games, starting with the basic Double Klondike. The 2 decks adds more cards and more possibilities, and other popular 2 deck games here include Gargantua, Batsford, and Harp.

Multi-deck games where are the cards in the tableau are face up form the Lady Jane group of games. King Albert type games are similar, but usually also have all the cards dealt out at the start. This type includes Agnes Bernauer and Agnes Three.

Carlton type games have all the tableau cards visible and a stock that deals one card to each tableau pile. This also includes games like Eternal Triangle and Spidike.

Flower Garden type games include a reserve pile where all the cards are available. This also includes Stonewall and Northwest Territory.

MAC --

It has become clear that macOS 10.15 (Catalina) is Apple's buggiest Mac update ever. We have identified a number of bugs in Catalina that are causing crashes to our apps.

I highly recommend NOT updating to Catalina until Apple fixes these bugs.

We are working on updates for all of our apps (including Pretty Good Solitaire, which has already updated for Catalina). We are also still at work on a big update for Pretty Good MahJongg.

These bugs do not affect all users, and the crashes do not happen all the time even if you are one of the users affected, so you can still play the games. If you do get a crash, it may be helpful to us if you copy and paste the crash report and send it to us by email. We are trying to find a way around these bugs in Catalina.

FEATURED GAME - WAXING MOON

Waxing Moon is a two deck Forty Thieves type game.

There are eight foundation piles, they are to be built up in suit from Ace to King. The game is won when all of the cards have been moved here.

There are twelve tableau piles. Build these piles down in suit. Groups of cards in sequence down in suit may be moved as a unit. Spaces may be filled by Kings or a legal group of cards headed by a King. At the start of the game four cards are dealt face up to each pile.

The remainder of the cards form a stock. This is turned over one card at a time to a waste pile by clicking. There are no redeals.

Waxing Moon is a very challenging game. An average player wins less than 1% of the time, but with strong play you can improve on this greatly.
